As the name suggests, classical interior design is deeply influenced by classicism – a reverence for the classical period and its aesthetics. Classicism is a complex of theoretical concepts and practical norms drawn from the ancient Greeks and Romans and applied to the composition and evaluation of works of art.

Classical interior design is a blend of both Greek and Roman interior design. Classical interior design tends to have an elegant and timeless look in a balanced way. It embodies a sense of harmony and balance, emphasizing perfect order in its design. The accessories, textures, and finishes, speak volumes of its richness.

This particular style is prevalent in many Indian apartments. It's known for being budget-friendly and can be quickly executed. It has become increasingly popular in interior design practices nowadays.

Classical interior designing has its own aura that remains eternally fashionable. Let's talk about some of the classical interior elements :

For an authentic classical look, the idea is to avoid brighter shades. Colors like white, beige, cream, olive, brown, blue, gold, etc., are best as the color theme for rooms as they just brighten up the place. Everything from furniture to textiles to wall paint, décor, and finishing materials should give off a calming vibe using natural hues. However, we can use some complementary colors to create a point of attraction.

For adding a touch of classical ornamentation, mouldings are an important feature. These mouldings can be used on the walls, skirting, or run around the corner of the ceiling to add detailing. They frame up the entire space. It can be used in tons of patterns, rectangular, circular, etc., and create an interesting feature. These mouldings can either be made in MDF, POP, HDHMR, wood, PVC, WPC, and more, depending on the budget, surface, and the ease of use.

Accessories in home interiors are often ignored but very essential for maintaining a classical theme. These accessories are beautiful, intricate, ornamental, and classy. For example, Big intricate chandeliers in the foyer or living hall can be a focal point; Artistically designed murals can beautify the empty walls; Floor-length curtains with French pleats add a classy touch; Copper or bronze metal pots for plants; marble flooring can be done in different patterns; coffered ceilings are the best to go with the classics; Use of golden metal finish of furniture legs and accessories to create a true classical assemblage.

The furniture used is elegant yet comfortable. The look of the furniture entails class and elegance with more of a wooden touch in beautiful carvings. Classical style includes a lot of detailing such as inlay and carved pieces with ornamented elements.

A focal point created in the living room, like a huge statue, a fireplace, or wooden art, can dominate the place. For example: a fireplace or a TV unit is designed in such a way that creates a central point of attraction and a symmetrical design around it. However, it doesn't have to be completely symmetrical, we can add an art piece off-center to break the symmetry and add a touch of creativity.
